Originally released in October 1968, This Was is the debut studio album by the British rock band Jethro Tull. It is famously the only album to feature original guitarist Mick Abrahams, whose heavy blues and jazz influence defined the band's early "British Blues Boom" sound before they transitioned into progressive rock.
The iconic cover art features the band members—Ian Anderson, Mick Abrahams, Clive Bunker, and Glenn Cornick—dressed as old men surrounded by a pack of dogs. The back cover includes the band's famous self-deprecating liner note: "This was how we were playing then—but things change—don't they?"
